Avraham Patna, 20, from Haifa, was the soldier killed Thursday morning in the serious attack that took place at the Tunnel Checkpoint in Jerusalem. Patna, a soldier in the Erez Battalion of the Military Police, was first critically wounded and later died of his wounds in hospital.
In the morning, three terrorists from Hebron arrived at the busy checkpoint near the capital with a large quantity of weapons and began shooting at the soldiers and fighters at the checkpoint. Apart from Patna, four other people were wounded, and the three terrorists were eliminated.
According to the police spokesperson's office, two M-16 weapons, two pistols, hundreds of bullets per weapon, about 2 magazines full of bullets, two axes and clothing similar to IDF uniforms were seized at the scene of the attack. The terrorists were Abd al-Qader Abd al-Qader Qawasmeh, 10, from Hebron; Hassan Mamun Muhammad Hassan Qafisha, 2, from Hebron, and Nasr Allah 'Abd al-Afo 'Abd al-Fattah Qawasmi, 26, from Dura.
Police Commissioner Kobi Shabtai arrived at the scene of the attack and said that the large quantity of weapons found in the terrorists' possession "indicates that they intended to carry out an attack on a completely different scale elsewhere, and only the vigilance of the policemen and checkpoint personnel led to their elimination. There is no doubt that there was an intention to carry out a massacre here."
