Sentimental Value for Families: The Equipment of the Murdered, Survivors and Abductees of the Nova Party // Shmuel Buchris

Last Thursday, a collection of items of equipment from the fallen and survivors arrived from the Nova Reim festival grounds at the Nova in Sdot Yam's therapeutic complex. At first glance, the stack of shoes, broken pairs of glasses, and torn wallets are reminiscent of sights from another century, but behind every item, be it a T-shirt, scarf, or even a keychain, there is sentimental value to a family that has lost a loved one.

Two of the festival's producers, Raz Malka and Sarel Butavia, call on everyone who was at the event, and the families of the murdered and abducted, to come and identify the items: "We gathered all the equipment that came from Lahav 433. It's equipment that doesn't have mom and dad, personal equipment that you don't know who it belongs to. Everything was washed and cleaned, and I'm sure the families will want to receive the equipment, it is of great value to the families who lost their loved ones, and to the partygoers who were and survived," Malka said, adding: "This is a testament to what we went through there. There are those who still don't leave the house and don't speak, help us reach them, we are grateful to everyone who enlists and helps us."

Families have already arrived at the compound who have managed to identify the belongings of their loved ones, and this is actually the last memory of it. "There is a whole envelope here to help families who come and break down in front of the items," Butavia said, stressing: "There are thousands of items here that belong to over 1,000 people. Everything from everything - clothes, keys, shoes, scarves, all the surviving equipment from the cars and the party grounds are here. There are families who come and go on a daily basis, and there is a binder that coordinates the photographs of the items here, but it's better to come and see with your own eyes."

Now, the party's producers, who own the compound for survivors and their families, explain that they need donations to continue rehabilitating the survivors: "Where we are costs money. All for the sake of our entire community. We have a long healing process, every family that has lost or whose children are abducted in Gaza, we have responsibility for that. We need your help," Malka said.

He added that state authorities, such as the National Insurance Institute, the Tax Authority, and welfare, come to help the survivors individually, but there is no other financial aid to help maintain the compound, and only private individuals help maintain it.
