"It's a dress, not a yes." "It's a dress, not a deal." In the Paris demonstration this Saturday, on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, we can only see this simple sign with such a clear message. Thousands of women and men set off at 14 p.m. from the Place de la Nation, in the direction of the Place de la République. At the call of feminist associations and trade unions, they are calling for better protection for women who are victims of violence, in the workplace, in couples or in armed conflicts.

"Our support goes to all women in the world, who are the first victims of armed conflict, along with children. We particularly show our support for the women of Ukraine, Burma, Palestine, Israel, Nagorno-Karabakh," says the appeal of the Feminist Strike association signed by collectives and unions. Alongside the collectives of associations led by #NousToutes and Grève féministe, the leaders of the CGT, Sophie Binet, and the CFDT, Marylise Léon, as well as representatives of FSU and Solidaires will be in the procession.

Victims of femicide

At the head of the Parisian procession march the families of victims of femicide, with portraits of their missing loved ones. 121 femicides in a conjugal context have been recorded this year by the associations, a figure that has already exceeded the 118 officially recorded for the whole of 2022. The organizing associations are calling for the creation of 15,000 shelter places dedicated to women fleeing their violent spouses. In many of these cases, it was shown that women victims had repeatedly reported assaults and threats by their spouses or ex-spouses, and that they had no choice but to continue to suffer, often alone.

This morning on France 2, the Minister of Equality between women and men Bérangère Couillard announced a bill to reduce to 24 hours the time to issue protection orders, currently six days according to her. And the decree implementing the law establishing emergency financial aid for victims of domestic violence, voted in February in Parliament, was finally published in the Official Journal on Saturday.
