After being convicted of the murder of Diana Dabayev and of assaulting and abusing his children, the Central District Court today sentenced Amir Raz to life imprisonment and another six years in prison for Ascension. In addition, he was ordered to pay compensation to his four minor children who were harmed by the offenses in the maximum amount prescribed by law – NIS 258,000.

"A harsh and cruel incident amounting to severe abuse. We decided that beyond the mandatory life sentence, he should be sentenced to an additional prison sentence and sentenced to six years in prison," the ruling said.

In light of the severity of the incidents and his abuse of Diana and the children, the prosecution sought to determine that it was an exceptional murder. This is a section of the law that is usually applied when the murdered person is a public official or a member of the security establishment or when it is a nationalist murder. This is significant in the conditions of imprisonment and in the subsequent sentence reduction.

This clause was never applied to the murder of women and the prosecution sought to set a precedent by applying it in the present case, but the judges rejected the request despite noting that the defendant had abused his children and Diana.

Diana's mother, Nelly, said that they waited for this moment for many years: "Before the verdict, there was a long wait and difficult encounters with our Diana's murderer, who was once her husband and since the murder is a cruel murderer who changed all of our lives, especially the children who were forced to watch the murder. Amir, the cruel murderer, deserves the harshest sentence that can be given so that he will not see the light of day and will not terrorize his children."

"We will study the verdict, even though no sentence and no justice will bring our Diana back. The judgment he receives must send a message that those who cruelly take lives pay dearly," the mother demanded. "This is a message mainly to all violent men with potential for violence to understand that the murderer of his wife or his libel will never see the light of day. Finally it's behind us and gives us a little to breathe a sigh of relief. Not to see the face of the murderer who was once my son-in-law. We deal with the trauma he caused the children every day. Let him stay in prison for the rest of his life."

Diana's father also expressed relief from the decision: "My wife and I are not sleeping. He finally got what he deserved. Such a person should spend his whole life in prison."
