Since the beginning of the fighting, hundreds of thousands of reservists have been recruited, and in some units there have been particularly high recruitment rates, sometimes of more than 150 percent. The army had a dilemma about whether to release the surplus manpower, but initially chose not to. Subsequently, the IDF decided to reduce reserve manpower, mainly at headquarters, but now, as stated, we are publishing that it has been decided at this stage to send home reservists in combat units as well.
The army is constantly discussing how to deal with the reservists, since on the one hand they are necessary for the multi-front fighting currently taking place, and in addition to the maneuver in Gaza, they are also required to defend the border in the north and, of course, in the Judea and Samaria sector as well. On the other hand, the economic implications of the reservists are high, and the understanding is that we must begin to reduce the number of reservists in order to help the economy, all without harming the war effort.

An IDF spokesperson said in response: "The IDF continues its combat efforts in all sectors, while employing reserve forces on an increased scale. Alongside the operational effort, the IDF is working to maintain the capabilities of the forces over time, alongside a return to economic activity. In light of this, it was decided to intelligently manage the scope of the reserve forces, without harming the combat efforts. These adjustments will enable planning for 2024 alongside continued combat activity in the various sectors.
As part of this, in the coming days, a number of frameworks that were in training, one that was in operational employment in the Central Command, and one battalion in the Northern Command will be released. The IDF appreciates and appreciates the reserve system, which is an inseparable part of the IDF's strength and strength.
