The American newspaper The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday, citing Israeli security sources, that Jerusalem was planning to attack the leadership of the Hamas terrorist organization in places such as Lebanon, Qatar, Turkey and other countries.
The report referred to Netanyahu's statement that he had given the order to assassinate senior members of the organization, and claimed that plans to carry out the assassinations had been in place since October 7, following the massacres by Hamas.
About a week ago, Netanyahu and Galant explicitly threatened Hamas leaders at a press conference they held on the eve of the hostage deal. Netanyahu provided an unusual statement when he said: "I have instructed the Mossad to act against the heads of Hamas." Netanyahu even claimed that "there is no obligation in the agreement not to act in a lull against Hamas leaders wherever they may be." Netanyahu addressed the question of whether Hamas leaders have immunity under the agreement, adding that "such a clause does not exist."
Minister Galant referred specifically to members of the political bureau, Ismail Haniyeh and Khaled Mashaal: "They live on borrowed time. Across the globe. They are all mortal."
