Sergeant Major (Res.) Jonathan Malka, 23, from Be'er Sheva, an armored soldier in the 82nd Battalion - in the 'Saar Megolan' Formation, 7th Brigade, who fell yesterday in battle in the Gaza Strip, is now being laid to rest in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl.

Eliram Algarbeli, a relative of Malka, wrote on his Facebook page: "It is with a broken heart and endless sadness that last night we were informed of the fall of Jonathan Malka - the twin brother of my sister-in-law Shira - in battle in the southern Gaza Strip. Jonathan was one of triplet twins. A sweet and smiling young man, who loves peace and loves goodness, full of kindness and joie de vivre. A fighter who sacrificed his life for the people of Israel."

Jonathan was the son of the legendary teacher Ronit from the AMIT Comprehensive School, who issued a statement of condolences: "The staff and students of Comprehensive AMIT Be'er Sheva mourn and grieve with Ronit and the Malka family over the heroic loss of their son."

His cousin, Revital Cohen, wrote: "Sweet Jonathan, beloved cousin, the righteous, brave, smiling and beloved soldier - this smiling picture, it's exactly you! It doesn't sit well with the words "allowed to be published" – always, always, always with a captivating smile, giving, caring, caring and love for your surroundings. It is said that God takes the best, sanctifies the near. There is no doubt that you will add a lot of holiness to the Shechina.

"Take care of your hurting parents, your older brothers. About two-thirds left without you are sore and overwhelmed. You are the smallest of them all - but the biggest, no doubt. Sweet Johnny, your smile will never leave us. Pray from above for all the fighters and for our country. Love you. May your memory be blessed."
