Two IDF soldiers were seriously wounded during an operation in the Gaza Strip to rescue abductees from Hamas. The forces raided a site belonging to the terrorist organization and eliminated terrorists who took part in the abduction and holding of the abductees - without succeeding in releasing the abductees.
The forces of the 98th Division continue to fight in the area of Khan Yunis, considered a main stronghold of the Hamas terrorist organization. The division's fighters eliminated about 130 terrorists in battle, worked to locate and destroy shafts, and directed precise attacks from the ground and air.

In a prolonged raid, large quantities of weapons were found in the school area, including launchers, mortar barrels, RPGs, IEDs and intelligence equipment. Fighters of the 4th Brigade's combat team took over a Hamas headquarters inside a mosque where a terrorist squad was hiding, and the squad was eliminated during the battle. In addition, the forces eliminated a terrorist squad that tried to flee to an underground medium.

Defense Minister Yoav Galant visited the Gaza Strip border, where he met female fighters from the Caracal Battalion and the Armored Corps. During the meeting, they all lit a second Hanukkah candle, and he even told them: "You see signs that indicate the break that is beginning inside Gaza, and therefore you have a central part in this matter."

He added: "The spirit of the IDF is that you hear the shots, see the flashes, look, assess the situation, and in the end the result is to move forward. This striving at the end gets you to where you find the problem. We turn on lights in Gaza, and turn off the light of those who want to harm us. Whoever thought he would turn off our lights sees day after day what the results are. In the State of Israel there is light and in Gaza there is darkness - it will intensify."

A statement issued on behalf of Kibbutz Be'eri on Saturday read: "It is with great sorrow and a broken heart that we announce the murder of Sahar Baruch (25), who was abducted from his home by Hamas terrorists to Gaza on Black Saturday and murdered there. His brother Idan was murdered by Hamas on Saturday, 7 October 10.
"We share in the unbearable grief of his parents, Tammy and Roni, his brothers, Guy and Niv, his family and all those who love him. We will demand the return of his body as part of any hostage return deal. We won't stop until everyone is home."
The US vetoed the resolution to demand a ceasefire from Israel
The UN Security Council convened on Friday for an urgent discussion on the war in Gaza and to vote on a draft resolution calling for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire. Throughout the conference, the organization's secretary general claimed that "Hamas's cruelty does not justify Israel's humanitarian violations." Russian and Chinese representatives also spoke out against Israel and called for an end to the fighting in the Gaza Strip. Finally, the US vetoed and prevented the resolution.

At the start of the discussion, UN Secretary-General António Guterres, who himself led the meeting, strongly criticized Israel's conduct in the Gaza Strip. While condemning the October 7 attack, he argued that it did not absolve Israel of its "violations of basic human laws."
Following his remarks, Israel's ambassador to the UN, Gilad Erdan, said during his speech at a UN Security Council meeting in the presence of Secretary-General António Guterres: "If the council wants a ceasefire, it must demand it from Hamas, which violated the last two ceasefires – on October 7 and again a few days ago. Why don't you direct the call for a ceasefire at Yahya Sinwar? Why don't you turn to Ismail Haniyeh? Why did you wake up only now and not when Hamas violated the last truce and caused it to collapse?"
Palestinian representatives present at the discussion attacked Israel's conduct even stronger, saying that "Israel has no goals in war but ethnic cleansing. We should be in favor of a ceasefire. If you don't, you're not calling for an end to genocide."
Seriously wounded in shooting attack near Mevo Dotan
An IDF soldier was moderately wounded in a shooting attack carried out on the day near the community of Mevo Dotan in northwestern Samaria. The shots were fired at a military force operating at a military post near the village of Ya'bad in the Menashe Brigade. The fighters responded by shooting at the terrorists.

The soldier received initial medical treatment at the point and was consciously evacuated to a hospital for medical treatment. His family was informed of his injury. The forces chased the terrorists and set up roadblocks in the area.
