After expressing deep shock at the events of October 7 and supporting Israel, Jewish singer and actress Barbra Streisand shared with her millions of followers Saturday night what she sees as a solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, recalling their meeting with former Prime Minister and President Shimon Peres.
"When I first met Prime Minister Shimon Peres years ago, I asked him, 'How can you help the Palestinians?'" said Streisand, 81, recalling their meeting. "He replied, 'By making their lives better.' We needed his advice then and we urgently need to listen to it now. In my humble opinion, we need two states for two peoples, which will hopefully bring peace and prosperity to the region."

When fighting broke out after the murderous Hamas attack on October 7, Streisand expressed deep shock at what was happening and wrote a post that she shared with her millions of followers on her social platforms. "Ever since I heard about the horrific attacks that took place in Israel and the abduction of innocent Israeli civilians, I have been shocked and shocked," she wrote at the time. "What happened to the rules of the game? This attack is cruelty without any humanity or compassion. There are no words to explain the madness of what is happening and the sadness it brings, and I share in the grief of all the mothers and fathers who have lost their children."

Since then, Streisand has addressed the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in several interviews and shared her thoughts with her millions of followers online. "I hope for the best because what's happening right now with these people, the kids, the mothers, no matter what religion they're from, it's just heartbreaking," Streisand said in an interview on The Stephen Colbert Show last month when asked about the war in Israel. "It's beyond religion. It is insanity on our part not to learn how to live together in peace. I can easily cry because of that," she added. "Where is God at this time?"
