US President Joe Biden hinted on Monday night about his complex relationship with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. During a candle-lighting ceremony for Hanukkah at the White House, he said he wrote on an old photograph of the two: "Bibi, I love you, but I don't agree with anything you have to say."
The president hinted that the prime minister was in a "weak spot" and the two had disagreements over the years. "It's about the same today," Biden said to applause from the predominantly Jewish crowd, adding that "I had disagreements with some Israeli leadership."

The US president did not elaborate on the differences between the two, although in recent weeks they have included issues related to the war between Israel and Hamas and the treatment of the Palestinians.
In a speech at the ceremony, Biden said that beyond his own differences with the Israeli leadership, his commitment to "an independent Jewish state is unshakable." He added that the United States would continue to work to free the hostages, expedite humanitarian aid to Gazans and "emphasize to the Israeli leadership that we need to protect civilian lives."
