Monday's results
According to Hamas' health ministry, whose death toll cannot be verified, more than 18,200 people have died in the Palestinian territory of the Gaza Strip, the vast majority of them women and children under the age of 18, killed by Israeli shelling unleashed on October 7 by the Islamist movement's bloody attack on Israel.
The attack killed 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and some 240 others were taken hostage, according to authorities. The army said Monday that 104 soldiers had died since the start of ground fighting in Gaza and that 582 soldiers had been wounded.

After the failure of the Security Council, Gaza on the agenda of the UN General Assembly
Taking over after another failure by the paralyzed Security Council, the UN General Assembly is due to vote on Tuesday on a resolution demanding "an immediate humanitarian ceasefire" in the Gaza Strip, a non-binding text that has every chance of passing. Despite pressure from UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, who fears a "total breakdown of law and order" in the war-torn Palestinian territory, a draft text calling for a humanitarian ceasefire was vetoed by the United States, Israel's powerful ally, in the Security Council on Friday.
It had already taken more than a month after the start of the war between Israel and the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas to succeed in speaking with one voice, contenting itself in mid-November, after four texts were rejected, with asking for humanitarian "pauses".
