At the end of a difficult day of funerals for those who fell in the serious incident in the activity of IDF forces in Shejaiya last night, Defense Minister Yoav Galant is holding a press conference this evening during which he is expected to address the incident.
In an IDF activity in Shejaiya, 9 fighters, including senior officers, were killed. Among those killed were Lt. Col. Tomer Greenberg, commander of the 13th Battalion, and former commander of the Yiftach and Faran Brigades, Col. Yitzhak Ben Basht.
Also killed in the serious incident were: Maj. Roy Maldassi, company commander in the 13th Battalion; Major Moshe Avraham Bar-On, company commander in the 51st Battalion; Capt. Liel Hayu, Acting B-51; Sergeant Eran Aloni, a soldier in the 51st, and the sergeant of her brother Daskal, a soldier in the 51st. Two 669 fighters were also killed in the incident: Maj. Ben Shelly and Sergeant Col. Rom Hecht. In another incident, Staff Sgt. Uriah Yaakov, a soldier in the 614th Battalion at the School of Combat Engineering, was killed.
Galant: "86 casualties have been added on Mount Herzl alone since October 7. A heavy price, very heavy, but the goal for which they fell is neither worthy nor just. Our fighters will fight in the Shejaiya neighborhood to the hilt. Just as they did not leave Nahal Oz, so they will continue with their fellow fighters and fight Shejaiya until they eliminate all the terrorists."
