Kerem Shalom Saga: Netanyahu's Israel Surrenders to U.S. Dictates | Israel Hayom

Highlights: The crossing, which was closed after the massacre, was already opened under the radar on Tuesday. The Biden administration is pressing to deepen and increase the pace of aid to the Gaza Strip. This is not just a self-disgrace of a sovereign government whose leader repeatedly declares A and under American pressure does B. These decisions contradict Israel's interest in subduing Hamas in the shortest possible time and at a low cost in blood. Instead of striving for victory, the U.S. claims to back the fighting and ties our hands in practice.

The prime minister, who is trying to present himself as withstanding the pressure, approved the opening of the additional crossing • That's not how you win a war, but apparently we've gotten used to it • Commentary

Apparently, the peak is yet to come. After water, fuel and aid have been flowing unhindered for weeks into Hamas' hotbed of terror in the Gaza Strip, today the ministers of the Political Security Cabinet also approved the opening of the Kerem Shalom crossing.

The crossing, which was closed after the massacre, accompanied by firm declarations by the ministers and prime minister that Israel would permanently cut ties with the Gaza Strip, was already opened under the radar on Tuesday. The reason: The Biden administration is pressing to deepen and increase the pace of aid to the Gaza Strip. However, the inspection at the Egyptian crossing causes delays. Yesterday, the national security adviser landed here and demanded that additional trucks be transported through Kerem Shalom – the message was received and the ministers approved. Once again, an inflated declaration of self-management of the war and independent decisions shattered to the ground of reality.

Aid to innocent civilians falls into the hands of terrorists As seen in countless videos, fuel is certainly not only used to heat homes, and the water may prevent a health collapse in the Gaza Strip, but it also prolongs the days of the terrorists and their supporters. That's not how you win a war.

Slow cooking

And our biggest problem is that we've gotten used to it. Netanyahu and his cabinet ministers cook their unmade decisions like a frog in water. At first it feels warm and pleasant, but when it burns us like the massacre we have already experienced, it is too late to shout. Not enough time passed for us to forget. It was like that with the fuel that the head of the National Security Council warned would be used by the terrorists and Israel would not allow it to pass. It was like that with the humanitarian aid that Netanyahu and his ministers made conditional on access to and rescue the abductees. And this is also happening this morning with the opening of the crossing "only for aid" and will end, if we follow the path of crumbs of aid by the United States and Netanyahu, with the Palestinian Authority that controls Gaza and Judea and Samaria through the Kerem Shalom crossing.

As luck would have it, Netanyahu is campaigning for him on the message: Only I am an international leader of the caliber who can stand up to American pressure. This week he explained how Ben-Gurion succumbed to pressure in 56 when he returned Sinai to Egypt, and he actually exerts pressure on Biden and his administration through American public opinion. But in the test of the outcome here, not in the White House: Netanyahu's Israel succumbs to dictates from there all along: aid-fuel-crossings, and the payment is in a war with limitations that are difficult to win and the price in blood in which it hurts us bitterly. The open question is, who will give in to Biden's pressure to establish a Palestinian state here the day after? Center-left leaders will certainly allow it. And Netanyahu? He will cook us little by little until we agree to that too.
