The President of the Great Rabbinical Court, Rabbi David Lau Shlita, announced today (Sunday) that in accordance with his authority under the Judges Law, a special panel of judges will be established to discuss the regulation of the Agunot War of Iron Swords.

In recent weeks, the president of the ICC spoke with many families who brought before him various cases and questions that arose in the wake of the war, following which he decided to establish the special panel. The panel of judges will include the President of the Great Court, Rabbi David Lau, Rabbi Eliezer Igra, and Rabbi Zvi Ben Yaakov.
Following the decision, the Director of the Rabbinical Courts, Rabbi Eli Ben Dahan, instructed all rabbinical court judges and court employees to refer cases pertaining to the war to the special panel of judges.

It should be noted that one of the most significant things in wars of this kind is the issue of anchorage. The meaning of an Aguna woman is that she is forbidden to marry or have children. She is married until her husband's condition is known. In the case of an iron sword war, there are many men who were captured and kidnapped and no trace of them was known, and there was a fear that a situation would arise in which women would be left anchored.
Therefore, there is a need for a special halachic court to determine whether these women remain anchored for life, or whether they are allowed to marry. This is a court with extraordinary halachic implications.
