Yossi Cohen, former Mossad chief, responded in an interview to Galatz on Sunday morning about the New York Times investigation according to which Hamas diverted millions of dollars to purchase weapons, and Israel knew but did not act. "The investigation is inaccurate," Cohen claimed.

"The overseas investigative writers did not seek comment," he said. "We worked very hard to bring in Hamas' sources of funding, but I can't elaborate. I can say that the investigation is inaccurate."

According to the American newspaper, in 2018 senior Israeli officials gained access to classified documents that described in detail what appeared to be an investment fund used by Hamas to finance its operations.

He also said in the interview that he agreed with the approach of the families of the abductees: "Israel needs to adopt an active approach to the deal. We don't know what Hamas or Islamic Jihad will demand. We must continue to press both in Israel and in the international arena. The abductees are in bad shape.
International organizations do not support or help in the way we would like. We have to continue with the proactive approach, we don't have to wait for someone to offer us a deal."
