Avi Lulu Shamriz, father of the late Alon Shamriz, who escaped from his abductors and was accidentally shot dead by IDF soldiers, demands to see a video of the horrific incident.
"We demand to see if there is a filmed film," he said in an interview with Army Radio on Monday, adding: "It was not a screw-up, but an execution, contrary to all the rules of engagement and what the IDF teaches. Who shoots people who raise their hands? What else does my son have to do so he hasn't been shot? He took off his clothes so they could see that he had no luggage, held a white flag. If there is anyone who needs to be held accountable, let him be held accountable!"
He later spoke about his appeal to recognize his son as an IDF martyr. "We are ready to take comfort, our son was a hero and they killed him like a dog. We asked to be recognized as an IDF martyr, which is the only consolation possible. Let the army take responsibility and make him a hero. In the meantime, the army has said no, the Manpower Division refuses to recognize it, and we are waiting for the defense minister, but she is apparently too busy. My son did exactly what he was taught in the army, he led hostages to safety."
An IDF spokesperson said: "The IDF shares in the grief of the Shamriz family. The family's request has been accepted and is being examined by the relevant authorities. A response will be communicated directly to the family."
