With the outbreak of the war, the electricity system collapsed in some of the surrounding communities. Many of the residents found themselves locked in safe rooms for hours without electricity, unable to turn on the air conditioner or light or charge their phones. One of the main lessons of the war is that every home must be able to produce its own energy without dependence on the electricity grid, which will be possible by placing a solar panel on each house with a storage facility next to it.

The government's decision to rehabilitate and develop the region of revival includes explicit reference to strengthening the region's energy security and energy independence. Chairman of the Knesset Environmental Caucus, MK Jurai Lahav Herzeno (Yesh Atid), sent a letter calling on the head of the Takuma Administration, Brigadier General in the reserves, Moshe Edri, to develop energy independence in the Takuma region, down to the level of the single house – and not stop at the regional and community level. "This is not only an environmental or socio-economic necessity, but a security need," noted MK Jurai Lahav Herzano.

This solution is relevant and will help, among other things, in cases of natural disasters, such as fires and earthquakes, all without air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions, such as diesel-based generators that are common today.

In his letter, MK Lahav Herzeno noted that "the establishment of the Takuma region not only as an energy island but as a national innovation center for green energy and climate, which will carry out academic and applied research, develop innovative technologies, support start-ups and research on an industrial scale, and enable a technological incubator, including space for pilots in the field of green energy – is a national mission and a tremendous lever for the socio-economic rehabilitation of this important region."
