Thousands attended Thursday's funeral for Sayyid Razi Mousavi, a senior IRGC commander killed in an attack attributed to Israel in Damascus, the Syrian capital.

Iran's spiritual leader, Ali Khamenei, prayed in the presence of regime officials near the coffin of the assassinated commander and read the first verse of the Quran, the Surat al-Fateh, next to the coffin. Khamenei did not attend the funeral ceremony itself, which took place near the enormous tomb of the founder of Iran's Islamic revolution, attended by thousands of Iranians.

At the ceremony itself, IRGC commander Hossein Salami spoke and said that "the revenge for Mousavi will be the complete destruction of the usurping and criminal entity." Salami also referred to statements made yesterday by an IRGC spokesman in which he stated that the October 7 attack was carried out in retaliation for the killing of former Quds Force commander Qassem Soleimani, saying that this was not true and that the attack was carried out "by the Palestinians by their own decision."

Another participant in the rally was Suleimani's own daughter, Zainab Suleimani, who is considered a well-known public figure among supporters of the regime in Iran. "The cowardly Zionist regime and its cowardly leaders need to know that they have raised awareness that this is a regime and a criminal and there is no choice but to fight it," Soleimani said.

Mousavi was a senior commander in the IRGC in Syria and, according to Iran, served as an advisor to the Iranian embassy in Syria. According to details published by the Al-Mayadeen network, which is known to be close to Hezbollah, Mousavi served as one of the veteran advisors of the Revolutionary Guards in Syria and is considered a close associate of Qassem Suleimani, former commander of the Quds Force, which is responsible for the Iranian Revolutionary Guards' activities outside Iran.
