The role of the intelligence gathering and technical loot unit in the Intelligence Directorate is to coordinate the collection and investigation of the spoils of the Hamas terrorist organization seized by the fighters on the ground since the beginning of the war, and especially since the beginning of the ground maneuver. The unit is composed mostly of reservists and its role is to exhaust intelligence and thus bring about operational efficiency of the forces.

So far, since the beginning of the war, more than 65 million files and half a million documents, operational plans and Hamas' combat doctrine have been seized.

Upon receipt of the intelligence material, the unit analyzes the materials and deduces operational significance that improves the activity of the combat forces in the Gaza Strip. In this way, the unit assists in extracting intelligence and flowing it back to the operational edge, while at the same time helping to maintain the security of our forces.

The IDF forces' ground maneuvers in Hamas strongholds and the transfer of the military intelligence system to in-depth research add a significant layer to the intelligence picture, from the tactical level to the strategic and operational level, and enables intelligence insights that reach back to the operational end. The materials are investigated according to their type and in partnership with various collection and research bodies in the intelligence community.

Among the documents found was a map of tunneling shafts seized by the 252nd Division at the home of a deputy commander in the Beit Hanoun Battalion of the Hamas terrorist organization. A legend explaining the map was located and collected by the division at the home of another operative. When the materials arrived in the complex, the important link between the map and the legend was created, thus enabling the closure of the circle on the shafts in the field, of which a large number of shafts were destroyed.
