The Cabinet approved today (Sunday) the theme of the torch-lighting ceremony on the upcoming Independence Day, under the theme of "Israeli heroism." The draft resolution also confirms Transportation Minister Miri Regev's responsibility for the 76th Independence Day events and the torch-lighting ceremony.
In addition, the proposal stipulates that a public advisory committee will be established to recommend the selection of torchlighters that will reflect the main topic chosen. Subsequently, a public appeal will be published, in which citizens of the country will be invited to propose relevant candidates related to the chosen topic.

Minister Regev's office said in a statement: "On October 7, the largest terrorist event in the history of the State of Israel took place, following which the State of Israel embarked on an unjust war. Since then, we have become aware of countless acts of heroism that will be reflected in the torch ceremony, among other things."
