An operative in the Hamas terrorist organization and an operative in the Islamic Jihad terrorist organization who were detained were interrogated by investigators of Unit 504's facilities and exposed once again the manner in which the Hamas terrorist organization uses civilians in the Gaza Strip and their surroundings for terrorist purposes.
"I felt that we [civilians] were human shields of Hamas," said Ali Zahedi Shahi, a former Hamas activist. "Why should we protect them? We also want to be saved, after all, this is our life."

"When the civilians left for the southern Gaza Strip, and there was a safe passage, Hamas took us into al-Shifaa Hospital and we got stuck inside," Shahi added during interrogation. "When the soldiers entered, the terrorists sat among us, among the civilians they had forcibly brought into the hospital. I even fought with one activist and told him, 'Your place is downstairs, not here with the citizens,' and he threatened me with retaliation."
"A Hamas terrorist placed an IED near the door of a civilian's house," Mohammad Darwish Amara, an Islamic Jihad operative, told the interrogator. "The owner of the house came to the terrorist and asked him why he did it, because if the IED exploded, 'I and the children will go,' he replied, 'It's none of your business, if you don't like it, go away.' The citizen replied, 'How is that none of my business? These are my children,' and in response the terrorist threatened to put the IED between him and his wife."
