Highlights: The incident occurred at a factory in Adelaide, South Australia, where Doritos and Cheetos bars are manufactured. The spicy seasoning compound caused workers to have worrisome health effects such as sneezing, coughing, chest pain, eye and skin irritation, burning sensation in the throat and difficulty breathing. The factory workers' organization filed a formal complaint with the supervisory body in charge of the plant. PepsiCo said in response to the complaint that it was under investigation and working to install additional fans on the production line.

The incident, which occurred at a factory in Austria, caused workers to have worrying health effects • They said the illnesses were due to the spicy seasoning mixture that is also used to make Cheetos snack • PepsiCo: "Employee safety is our top priority"

One of the most dangerous trends of 2023 was the spicy tortilla trend, in which surfers documented themselves eating the world's hottest tortilla, a trend that led dozens of surfers to medical treatment and, in one tragic case, to the death of a teenager who took part in it.

In recent days, the popular Doritos and Cheetos snacks have also been found to be dangerous, at least in one factory where they are produced in their spicy version.

The incident occurred at a factory of Smith's Snackfood (a British-Australian company owned by PepsiCo), located in Adelaide, South Australia, where Doritos and Cheetos bars are manufactured, among other things.

According to foreign media reports, the spicy seasoning compound used in Doritos Flamin' Hot Cheese Supreme corn chips and Cheetos Flaming Hot bars caused factory workers worrisome health effects such as sneezing, coughing, chest pain, eye and skin irritation, burning sensation in the throat and difficulty breathing.

The factory workers' organization filed a formal complaint with the supervisory body in charge of the plant. Eleven employees out of 11 whom the organization interviewed to investigate complaints about the illnesses reported the negative effects of the spicy seasoning mixture. The complaint states that during the preparation of the product every few weeks, a "seasoning machine" was used to disperse the compound. This apparently caused the sickness among the workers, among other things as a result of it being carried in the air and dispersed in the factory.

PepsiCo said in response to the complaint that it was under investigation. It was also reported that the safety of the employees is the company's top priority and it is working in cooperation with the organization to examine the complaint and handle it as required and in accordance with the findings. In addition to requiring employees to wear masks during the manufacturing process, the company is currently working to install additional fans on the production line.
