Burning hedges and garbage containers, increasing aggression: New Year's Eve with lots of fireworks is what Hesse's emergency services initially classify as "normal business". However, there are also isolated attacks against emergency services.

Frankfurt/Main - At the start of the new year, the police in Hesse initially did not register any serious incidents in an initial assessment. However, there were also isolated attacks against emergency services. On Monday morning, it was unanimously said in the police headquarters that it was the normal business on a New Year's Eve for the time being. Burning hedges, garbage containers and other smaller fires have occurred in many places, including a burning mobile home in Dieburg. "So far, it's normal madness," the police in Kassel initially said.

According to an initial assessment, the turn of the year was largely peaceful in Frankfurt's city centre. Of course, firecrackers and rockets were again fired into crowds, said a police spokesman early Monday morning. However, the officials had taken consistent action against it. There have been around 15 provisional arrests. However, the people were released after their personal details had been established. On the Zeil shopping street in the city centre alone, hundreds had celebrated the New Year, according to the information.

Shortly after midnight, according to the Frankfurt Fire Department, firefighters from a fire engine were attacked with stones and fireworks and two firefighters were injured. She was treated as an outpatient in a clinic. The police took up investigations. Volunteers from the German Life Saving Society (DLRG) were also shot at with fireworks near a bridge over the River Main. There were no casualties. The Frankfurt fire brigade spoke of 2 missions in the period from midnight to 00:99 a.m. alone.

In Fulda, too, it was said that groups of people had fired rockets at each other. In the course of the evening, more and more alcohol is drunk and people become more aggressive. In Darmstadt, it was said in the morning about the operation: "nothing major yet".

In Wiesbaden, a passer-by had already been slightly injured by a firecracker on Saturday evening. The 37-year-old from the Rhein-Lahn district was walking across the station square when a firecracker was thrown down, presumably from the roof of a shopping center. The woman suffered minor injuries to her foot, but did not require medical treatment.

According to the police, when fireworks were set off near the Hessian State Chancellery in Wiesbaden, two celebrating groups got into an argument. A 23-year-old man suffered a stab wound to the head and a 21-year-old companion also suffered a head injury from a blow with a bottle. Both men were taken to the hospital. The police initiated investigations for dangerous bodily harm.

The East Hesse police headquarters in Fulda reported 70 operations by early Monday morning in connection with New Year's Eve. For example, there were several expulsions for "alcohol-related aggression offenses". Two people were temporarily taken into custody. Also due to increased police presence, however, there were no serious crimes, according to the East Hesse Presidium. Several bushes, hedges and garbage cans caught fire during the firecrackers, but no one was injured. During traffic checks of motorists on New Year's Eve in the area of the East Hesse police headquarters, the officers registered a peak value of 2.56 per thousand of alcohol in the blood.

In some inner cities with historic buildings, firecrackers had also been banned this time, and citizens had to move to other areas there. In Frankfurt, for example, a ban also applied within a radius of 200 meters from churches, hospitals, old people's homes, the zoo and half-timbered houses. The Federal Police had issued a weapons ban for several train stations for the turn of the year. In addition, the burning of fireworks was prohibited in the area of the railway facilities. Dpa
