Burning hedges or garbage containers, increasing aggressiveness: New Year's Eve with lots of fireworks is initially classified by the emergency services as "normal business".
Frankfurt/Main - At the start of the new year, the police in Hesse initially did not register any major incidents in an initial assessment. Attacks on emergency services and emergency vehicles have not yet been reported. However, burning hedges, garbage containers and other smaller fires have occurred in many places. The start of the new year with fireworks in Frankfurt's city centre has been largely peaceful for the time being, according to an initial assessment. In Wiesbaden, a passer-by had already been slightly injured by a firecracker on Saturday evening. The 37-year-old from the Rhein-Lahn district was walking across the station square when a firecracker was thrown down, presumably from the roof of a shopping center. The woman suffered minor injuries to her foot, but did not require medical treatment.
In some inner cities with historic buildings, firecrackers had also been banned this time, and citizens had to move to other areas there. In Frankfurt, for example, a ban also applied within a radius of 200 meters from churches, hospitals, old people's homes, the zoo and half-timbered houses.
