Following the government's decision to urge residents of the surrounding communities to return to their homes and receive a financial grant in return, Sdot Negev Council head Tamir Idan responded to the remarks and attacked the decision. "We are taking our residents back to October 6 and abandoning their personal safety."

Idan did not like the decision and claimed that it was a bribe. "The same government that violated the agreement with us on October 7 is now trying to bribe the residents to return to their homes without removing the security threat, without providing a basic security response to communities in the area and without an education system that can absorb the returnees. This is the same government that does not provide a solution for the residents of communities beyond 7 kilometers. This is the same government that does not live up to its words vis-à-vis our residents, and is now urging them to return to their homes when only yesterday the missiles were still whistling above our heads."

The head of the council was not satisfied with this and even called on his residents not to return to their homes. "I call on the residents of Sdot Negev not to return to their homes until we know for sure that behind the promises there are also actions – our values and the security of our children are not bought with money. If the prime minister and his ministers do not come to their senses and start working directly with the heads of the councils and provide immediate solutions, we will not hesitate to embark on a difficult struggle against them, even in times of war, and we will call on all residents of the council to move and live in tents in front of the Knesset until the government comes to its senses."

In return for returning to their homes, the government offered residents of the envelope a payment of 200 shekels per day per adult and 100 shekels per child. According to that decision, residents will lose their right to stay outside the community even if the security threat is renewed. In other words, a dramatic decision for residents who can't turn back if they feel threatened.
