The year 2024 has begun and many are already planning the trips they will embark on around the world. Unfortunately, some of the world's iconic sites will be closed this year, with some permanently closed and some closed for renovations. The one that made a list of the sites we won't be able to visit this year is CNN, these are the places we won't be able to visit this year.

Pompidou Centre, Paris

The iconic center, home to a public library and museum of modern art, will close this summer to undergo a $282 million renovation. It is estimated that the center will not open until 2030.

Splash Mountain, USA

One of the special attractions of Disneyland theme parks in Orlando, Florida and Anaheim, California, is the Splash Mountain. The park was built after the movie 'Song of the South' and also includes a waterfall where boats fall at a 45-degree angle from a height of 15 meters. The film presents an angle glorifying the era of slavery in the United States, which is why African-American rights groups attacked the facility. Disney accepted the criticism and closed the facilities to make changes and reopen them, based on the movie The Princess and the Frog. The facilities will be closed until at least the end of 2024.

Noma restaurant in Copenhagen

One of the most unique culinary institutions in the world, which holds three Michelin stars, is the Noma restaurant in Copenhagen, which was even ranked for many years as the best restaurant in the world. The chef, René Redzepi, decided that the restaurant would close at the end of 2024. Given that this is a restaurant with a huge queue (a year's waiting list), this means that you can't make a reservation for it.

Phantom of the Opera in New York

One of the world's most famous shows, The Phantom of the Opera, was staged in 2023 for its last time. This is after 35 years of performances in which the play was staged 14,<> times.

Pergamon Museum, Berlin

One of the world's most unique museums, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Pergamon Museum, has closed for renovation until 2027. The museum has a number of famous and very ancient iconic buildings that were brought to it in their entirety, including the Pergamon Altar, the Market Gate of Miletus, the Gate of Ishtar and the Street of the Processions of Babylon, the façade of the Mashata Palace and the Aleppo Room.

Elephant Rock, Taiwan

Elephant Rock, was a unique and popular photographic spot in Taiwan. The reason, of course, is the rock's striking resemblance to an elephant's trunk. But the rock collapsed into the sea last December and the site no longer exists.

Hyatt Hotel, Tokyo

The Hyatt Hotel in Tokyo opened in 1994 and was the first luxury hotel in Japan's capital to be built in a Western style. The hotel is also remembered for the movie 'Lost in Tokyo' which was also filmed on the hotel's rooftop. The hotel will undergo a complete renovation in 2024 and reopen in 2025.

Notre Dame, Paris

Notre Dame Cathedral caught fire in 2019 when the building, which has stood for 850 years, was severely damaged. Renovations and repairs to the building will continue into 2024 and it is expected to open to the public again, probably in December 2024.

Disney's Star Wars Hotel, Bay Lake Florida

A favorite attraction that closed this year is Disney's Star Wars complex. It was a hotel that included many Star Wars activities such as lightsaber training, encounters with droids and more. However, the complex was closed this year for business reasons.
