Gersh was the only child of his parents. Despite this, he insisted on serving in combat.
Alan, his father, said of him painfully: "He volunteered in the fire department for four years. He loved to contribute. He believed in the state, he believed in the army. He didn't get a combat profile, but he persisted and fought."

"He came to the Yahalam unit and excelled. Went to the army and gave of himself. Put aside the fear for the sake of the goal - to defend the country. He was an only child and he said, 'Why should I be punished when I want to contribute like everyone else, just because I'm an only child?' He wanted to realize his desire and potential."

When he was a teenager, he volunteered at the fire station in his hometown. The Central District Fire and Rescue Service eulogized him: "Meron was a volunteer Fire and Rescue Service at the Petah Tikva Fire Station from the age of 15 to 18. The family of firefighters from Petah Tikva Regional Station shares in the grief of the Gersh family over the death of their son, Sgt. Meron Moshe."
