MCS, the world's largest shipping company, reports a 3.5-fold increase in container prices, as its ships are forced to change course and move around Africa • "The Suez Canal is becoming a challenge"

The price of the war: After MCS, the world's largest shipping company, announced three weeks ago that it would stop using the Suez Canal, container prices to Israel are becoming more expensive. Container prices now exceed $7,000 per container. This is a 3.5-fold increase per month and is similar to the price increase of Maersk, which first announced the cessation of sailing through the Suez Canal, due to Houthi attacks.

In a message to customers, it said: "For several weeks now, the Suez Canal has become a challenge to cross because the Red Sea area is unsafe. Recent incidents of ship attacks have forced us to take significant action and route ships through the Cape of Good Hope (around the African continent).

"Since the canal is closed in both directions and there is no passage through the Red Sea, as a result sailing schedules have been disrupted both east and west, disrupting the delicate balance of empty versus full containers and the place on board.

"We will not have enough vessels to operate a weekly departure, so our structural space will be severely damaged and reduced. In addition, we report that as expected, our container inventory has decreased considerably and we have little hope that there will be enough equipment to supply everyone."
