At a special conference held Friday morning in Kibbutz Mizra, in support of Lior Simcha's candidacy to head the kibbutz movement, former Deputy Chief of Staff Yair Golan said that "there must be one left-wing party, and if this requires me to retire from politics, I will retire."

In addition to Maj. Gen. (res.) Golan, Raya Ben Avraham, community manager of Kibbutz Na'an and a social activist, also participated in the conference. At the conference, the participants discussed ways to rehabilitate the communities in the envelope and the north, the role of the kibbutz movement in light of the massacre that took place on October 7, and the need for a fundamental internal change in the way the country is headed.

Golan added: "After suffering a terrible blow on October 7, the kibbutz movement should be an angry movement. The coming year is the most fateful in Israel's history, Israel could easily deteriorate into a messianic dictatorship, or we will emerge from the crisis a thriving and strengthened liberal democracy. This is a fateful time that will determine our future. If there is no political change, we are going to perdition."

He went on to add: "There must be one left-wing party! Our public is from the Arab sector to the disappointed Yair Lapid. There is no question of ego here. There must be only one party."

The conference was attended by more than 200 spectators,

Lior Simha, one of the leaders of the kibbutz movement, said that "the first national challenge today is the return of all the abductees, the defeat of Hamas and the axes of evil, and the provision of quiet and security that will enable the rehabilitation and development of life and the means of production in the western and northern Negev kibbutzim, to the last furrow, despite the distress and pain. The state must set an agenda that recognizes the needs of the kibbutzim, their way of life and their values, i.e., mutual responsibility, solidarity and partnership. Values that seem to be shared by many in Israeli society today, after October 7."

"This is the kibbutzim's moral compass and it is also the basis for renewing the kibbutz movement's mission in shaping the tomorrow of Israeli society, while creating connections and interfaces on the public and national levels," he concluded.
