On December 14, 2023, the security and law enforcement authorities in Denmark and Germany announced the arrest of terrorist operatives who worked for the Hamas terrorist organization in Europe with the aim of attacking Israeli, Jewish and Western targets. In an ongoing intelligence effort by the Mossad, the Shin Bet and the Prime Minister's Office, a great deal of information was revealed proving how the terrorist organization expands its violent activity abroad in order to harm innocent people around the world. The investigative and intelligence materials indicate that the scope of terrorist activity was large and significant.

Legal proceedings are currently underway against the suspects in Europe. According to the investigation materials that can be published, Hamas promoted terrorist attacks against targets in the Middle East, Africa and Europe. Under the command of senior members of the organization's leadership: the deputy head of Hamas' political branch who was assassinated, Saleh al-Arouri, as well as the two who were assassinated with him, Samir Fendi and Azzam al-Aqra. The three were key figures in Hamas' terrorist activities around the world until their deaths last week in Beirut.
Hamas' targets abroad included a variety of Israeli targets, including the Israeli embassy in Sweden. The organization's terrorist activity in Europe was led by Khalil Kharraz until his death in Lebanon last November. Kharraz, who was Al-Aqra's subordinate in the Hamas area of the West Bank, served as deputy commander of Hamas' military-terrorist wing in Lebanon.

As part of his position, Kharaz was responsible for some of the infrastructure exposed in Denmark, the Netherlands and Germany last December, as well as the procurement of drones in Europe to implement the organization's activities. IN ADDITION, KHARAZ, THROUGH PEOPLE OF TRUST, WAS INVOLVED IN BUILDING AND ESTABLISHING TERRORIST INFRASTRUCTURES BASED ON HAMAS COLLABORATORS IN EUROPE AND OPERATIVES OF A CRIMINAL ORGANIZATION CALLED LOYAL TO FAMILIA (LTF). These elements acted on behalf of Hamas as its proxies in Europe, mainly in Denmark, Germany and Sweden. Some even operated in more than one arena. The LTF was outlawed in Denmark in 2021, and some of its activists are now in Lebanon.
Hamas' work in Europe is carried out using a method similar to that used by the Iranians as part of the regime's strategy to maintain a zone of denial, and to distance Iran from paying a price for terrorist activities directed by them. However, despite Iran's attempts at expulsion and denial, there is a clear connection between Iran and Hamas.
The Prime Minister's Office said: "The Mossad, Shin Bet and IDF, in partnership with international security and enforcement agencies, will continue to work to thwart the terrorist intentions of Hamas and all terrorist organizations, to settle accounts with them anywhere in the world for the security of the State of Israel and the Jewish people."
