Winter break, snow and above all Corona - there are many reasons why the ball is currently not rolling on the pitch.
From mid-February he will at least do it again on the monitors.
Because the Erdinger / Dorfener Anzeiger and the MA Gold Cup will again start a virtual district championship on the console in 2021.
The success of the MA Club Championship last year gave us courage.
There is a second edition - with even more teams and with an optimized tournament mode.
What we will not change: There will be many local derbies again, and it will again be about the challenge cup, which the local newspaper announced and which FC Schwaig won last year.
Of course, the basic idea remains #stayathome.
EA SPORTS FIFA 21 is played on Playstation 4 in the living room at home. This time, the participating clubs are divided into four instead of two local groups.
“This allows us to increase the field of participants from 30 to 32 teams, but at the same time reduce the number of group games,” explains Maximilian Maier.
"The entire Club Championship should be played through within six weeks."
Because for the managing director of MA Gold Cup, one thing is clear: "When the ball hopefully rolls in the spring, we will all be eager to finally be back on the pitch." After all, the console tables are all active in real football in the clubs.
Maier himself, for example, is on the ball for FC Langengeisling, which wants to make it to the district league this year.
But back to the console kick: This time, each club is no longer represented by three, but two players, each playing a single.
The individual results (a win gives three points, a draw one point) are then added to a team rating.
The playoffs follow after the group stage.
The four best of groups A to D qualify for the round of 16. In the event of a tie in the groups, first the direct comparison and then the goal difference decides on the table placement.
Then it goes in the knockout system until the final.
The goal difference no longer plays a role in the playoffs.
Specifically, this means: Even if club A is defeated 0: 6 in the first individual game, it is not yet lost, but can still fight for a decisive game thanks to a narrow success in the second duel.
“That way, the matches stay exciting until the end,” says Maier, who received a lot of feedback from players after the first tournament.
“And they were consistently positive,” he says.
In addition to eternal fame and honor, the district champion in 2021 will receive the aforementioned challenge trophy from the local newspaper as well as plenty of beer from Erdinger Weißbräu, which this year will again be available as a sponsor and, in addition to the prizes for the best, also offers a liquid entry bonus for all participating teams.
As in the previous year, MA Gold Cup, as the host of the tournament, waives an entry fee.
The defending champion is FC Schwaig, which will play the opening game on February 12th.
"We want to broadcast that live on Twitch again," says Maier.
The next day all other games of the first match day follow.
Schwaig's top player Hannes Empl, who is now active in Jahn Regensburg's Bundesliga eSports team (we reported), is letting his teammates Daniel Fichtlscherer and Vincent Sommer go ahead this year, but will stand by everyone with tips as an ambassador.
Maier is looking forward to teams like SV Eichenried, which made it to the semi-finals with its youngsters, but also to newcomers: "A fresh wind is always good."
