At age 59: Modi Bar-On passed away Israel today

But a heavy blow fell on the sports world with the announcement of the passing of the esteemed TV presenter Modi Bar-On at just 59 years old.

At the beginning of January 2022, sports news presenter Miri Nevo announced that Bar-On was absent from the sports channel's broadcasts due to a medical situation.

The Ichilov Medical Center later confirmed that Bar-On was battling cancer and was hospitalized in the hospital's oncology ward.

Last Saturday, Moody managed to excite viewers of the sports channel for the last time, when his voice was heard in a short article on the broadcast of the Champions League final.

Bar-On was one of the people most identified with Sports Channel 5. He came to the channel in 1994 and has since submitted hundreds of broadcasts and programs.

Most of all Bar-On is associated with the Champions League studio, before and after the biggest football league games in Europe, and with the "spend" greeting in which he greets the viewers of the channel just before the start of each game.

Modi was born in Kiryat Tivon in 1962 and as a child the family moved to Haifa.

He served in the IDF in the Nahal Brigade and participated in the First Lebanon War.

After his military service, he completed a bachelor's degree in theater at Tel Aviv University.

He began his career in the 1980s as a stand-up comedian and was a member of the "How It Really Works" team with Gadi Pur and Yossi Peretz.

In the early 1990s, he acted in films and directed plays, and also joined the writing team of the television program "The Chamber Quintet", while also writing humorous columns in "Tel Aviv Time" and "Globes".

Over the years, he has submitted and created several television documentary series, some with Anat Zeltzer, such as "All People," "In the Jewish State," "Tel Aviv-Yafo," "The Kibbutz," "Route 90" and "Homeland Lesson."

In 1994, he arrived at the sports channel.

Over the years he has directed "Gate Five", a magazine summarizing Premier League football matches, and for a time also the "Press Offer".

In recent years he has directed the main game studio in the Premier League.

Bar-On was known as a die-hard fan of Hapoel Haifa.
