The European Sailing Championship 470, will open tomorrow (Tuesday) in Turkey, with the participation of the Israeli team which will include the duos Gil Cohen and Noam Mavari, Nitai Hasson and Noa Lasri, led by coach Gidi Kaliger.
The first year of the Paris campaign did not start easily for the team, when a plague of injuries forced the coach to reshape its face.
Last year's world champion, Gil Cohen, was injured and underwent a long recovery period from surgery, while her boatmate, Mauri, awaits her return to fitness.
Sa'ar Tamir was also injured just before the Princess Cup and was replaced by Lesri, who returned from retirement, and has been sailing with Hasson ever since.
Team coach Gidi Kliger: "This was not the start of the campaign we expected, no doubt. The goal in the last few months was to rebuild the teams in order to arrive ready for the European Championships. In the test cruises last month, the performance was not bad at all and we are building on the upcoming competitions in order to understand what Our chances in the current campaign for Paris"
The European Championship will be held in Chezma and will include 5 preliminary sailing days, with three sailings taking place each day.
On the last day of the competition (Sunday) there will be a medal cruise in which only the first ten places will participate.
The European Championship is a target competition for the Israeli teams and it will allow the professional team to get a picture of the situation before the World Championship, which will be held in Israel next month (October 23-28, 2022 in Sdot Yam).
