The former midfield warhorse of FC Bayern, Mark van Bommel, almost fell victim to a robbery.
He escaped from an armed attacker.
Antwerp - shock moment for Mark van Bommel: The former captain of FC Bayern narrowly escaped an armed robbery in the underground car park of his apartment on Monday night.

When van Bommel, coach at the Belgian first division club Royal Antwerpen, wanted to drive into the garage of his apartment in a Porsche, a man armed with a pistol was evidently standing in front of the entrance.
The Dutchman immediately put the car in reverse and crashed into a parked vehicle, which triggered the alarm system.

The alleged perpetrator then fled.
He hasn't been caught yet.
"Nobody was injured, our teams checked the area but a suspect could not be found," said spokesman Wouter Bruyns.

The investigations continue.
On Wednesday, van Bommel was in charge of his team's training again.
He declined to comment on the incident.
Footballers are often targeted by criminals.
Recently, Thomas Müller was broken into, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Chelsea FC) was robbed and physically attacked.
Angel di Maria (Paris St. Germain) was also the victim of a burglary.
