Markus Schwabl scores against Buchbach – second goal since return.

Unterhaching – It was almost exactly three months ago that Markus Schwabl was in the starting XI of SpVgg Unterhaching in the Regionalliga Bayern.

A hamstring injury forced the 32-year-old to watch for two months, then coach Sandro Wagner gradually increased the pressure on Holzkirchner.

In the home game last Saturday it finally happened, Schwabl ran on from the start - and scored directly to make it 2-0.

The perfect starting XI comeback?

"If you look at the hard facts - won 2-0, put the lid on it, scored the first goal of the season and got over the injury well - you can stamp that in the right direction," says Schwabl.

Above all, his volley hit, which is worth seeing, should be highlighted in his list.

It's only his second since returning to Game Association and fourth overall as a pro.

All for Unterhaching.

“For me, the rate is normal: a goal every 100 games,” sums up Schwabl.

With around 360 professional missions, nothing should happen for the next 40.

"Then we'll see again."

For the Holzkirchner it is already the second return to the first eleven this season.

Schwabl came out of an injury at the start of the season, on the fifth day of the game, his third game from the start, the next one followed.

During the mandatory break, the second Hachinger captain was always close to the team.

"Nevertheless, I was on the site every day, saw almost every training session and attended every game." At 32, he is one of the veterans at the sports park, "I can give a lot along the way".

He also has a good relationship with coach Sandro Wagner, which I showed when we celebrated on Saturday.

Speaking of which: Wagner clearly tightened the reins in his second season as Unterhachinger trainer.

Especially in the area of fitness.

At the same time, the 34-year-old has “developed enormously”, as Schwabl emphasizes.

"He doesn't insist on something when he sees that something else works better." Many team events have welded the team together and with René Vollath there is a secure backing in goal.

In short: The SpVgg has turned many small adjustment screws and has improved enormously as a result.

This is also reflected in the table after 20 games: Haching is at the top with 48 points, one point ahead of Würzburg.

The lead over second place 1. FC Nürnberg is already ten points.

"It looks like there will be a duel between Würzburg and us," Schwabl knows.

"They don't give the impression of weakening." That's why the game association shouldn't give away any more points in the remaining four games until the winter break in order to start in the spring with the optimal starting position.

Markus Schwabl wants to play a bigger role than – forced – in the first half of the season.

"I'm relatively relaxed about it.

I never really had any big things," he says of the recent injuries.

Now "everything feels great again." He also pays more attention to his body with age.

Hopefully nothing should stand in the way of the race for the championship in the Bavarian regional league and thus the relegation games to the 3rd league.
