The leaders of the Regionalliga Südwest proved to be too strong: SG Barockstadt lost to SSV Ulm deservedly 2-0 (0-0), but will regret a big chance.

SSV Ulm's ambitions are clear: it should go into the 3rd division after the club missed out on promotion by just three points last season.

Most recently, the former Bundesliga side, where Ralf Rangnick took his first steps as a coach, went through a small phase of weakness, was eliminated in the association cup and reduced the lead at the top of the table with a goalless draw at the U21s of VfB Stuttgart.

Regionalliga Südwest: SSV Ulm too strong for SG Barockstadt

At SG Barockstadt, SSV struggled for a long time because the hosts, who lacked regular full-backs in Kristian Gaudermann and Kevin Hillmann, defended deeply and, above all, well.

The guests came to conclusions, but SGB keeper Tobias Wolf never had to intervene in the first 45 minutes.

On the other side, the baroque city should have taken the lead when SSV captain Johannes Reichert was the last man to miss the ball and Marius Löbig ran towards the goal alone, but his shot went a meter over the bar (25 ').

In the minutes before the half-time whistle, the hosts attacked less and less, while Ulm's possession phases in the opposing half were overwhelming.

This picture also emerged after the change of sides, when SGB had to take a deep breath for the first time because Lucas Röser only hit the bar with a lob (53.).

A few minutes later, however, Röser was to succeed when he shot a cross into the goal (60').

The SG Barockstadt showed a decent performance, defended itself after all possibilities.

Ulm only allowed little - apart from Löbig's big chance - and used the smallest mistakes SGB on the other side.

Marcel Schmidts got too much space on the left corner of the penalty area, which the outside player punished with a goal to make it 2-0 (67th).

It took coach Sedat Gören's team a moment to shake off the two goals they conceded, but they then made an appearance again in the opposing half.

However, there were no longer any clear chances, but the SGB prevented Ulm from flexing its muscles.
