(CNN Spanish) - Carabineros de Chile asked the prosecutor's office on Saturday to summon "singer Mon Laferte" to make a statement before "prosecutors who process fire processes in the Santiago Metro", according to a statement posted on the institution's Twitter account.

The objective, according to Carabineros, is for the Chilean singer to contribute “all the background they have to formulate such serious accusations”.

The request is given, according to the text, after the statements of Mon Laferte in an interview with the Univisión chain where he said, referring to the burning of stations of the Santiago Metro during the protests, that “there are many cases where the same police and the same military were the ones who were on fire ”.

Carabineros also announced that it will exercise “civil and criminal actions” against the artist.

The singer at the moment has not made any public statement. CNN tried to contact the artist's record house to get any comments related to the subject, without success so far.

The Carabineros statement also mentions that the same request has been made to the Public Prosecutor to summon a lawyer who “serves in the Regional Prosecutor's Office of Valparaíso” for comments similar to those of the artist.

In Chile, the mobilizations, which began with a social outbreak on October 18, have left at least 20 people dead.
