105 children with hearing disabilities were briefed on the mechanism of working with a number of handicrafts during a familiarization tour of traditional handicrafts. Al-Jalaa Sports Hall in Mezzeh.

A group of Damascene craftsmen presented these crafts to children organized by the Association of the Deaf Care in Damascus in cooperation with the Institute for the Hearing Impaired of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor on the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities under the title “We travel through professions” to introduce children to these professions that parents inherit from grandparents. Making some pieces according to Mohammed Al Kilani, founder of the volunteer team at the Deaf Care Association.

Al-Kilani said in a statement to SANA that the aim of these activities is to integrate deaf children in the society and introduce them to 10 old crafts and handicrafts so that they can acquire skills and experience by briefing them on the tools of each profession. To train interested children in these professions in Tekke Sulaimaniya in preparation for exhibitions to display their work through them.

Sawsan Rizk, director of the Institute for the Hearing Impaired in Damascus, said that children convey a message that their disability did not limit their potential and will not stand up to their ambitions and prove that they are able to challenge the disability and prove their distinctive abilities through their excellence in their education in the institute in addition to the exercise of identities and professions to enable their future vocational education. The importance of rehabilitating these children and enhancing their self-confidence and communication with their surroundings.

Eng. Ramzi Ota Bashi, Director of Tourism Services at the Ministry of Tourism, pointed out the importance of introducing children and adolescents from different categories to these professions and handicrafts, pointing out that the ministry is ready to train these children to transfer the basics of these heritage crafts to them, which may constitute a job opportunity for them in the future, while the Director of Social Affairs and Labor in Damascus Shawki Aoun, the importance of this activity recreational and educational at the same time, a first step to introduce children to these professions and monitor the extent of their desire to teach them, noting such activity because it is outside the ranks of the Institute, which contributes to their integration into society.

The craftsmen Nizar Mardini and Arabic calligraphy craftsman Kamal Zahreddine noted the intellectual properties and skills of some children that help them to train the craft that they want less time as well as their participation in creating their own designs, while the plastic artist Badi Jahjah and leather craftsman Bassam Sidawi stressed the importance of vocational education. For these children, especially early, which contributes to the acquisition of trade and profession and economic empowerment.

Over the course of two hours, the children traveled to art, heritage, and Damascene creativity through an introductory journey about handicrafts where Sana Al Ali stood with confidence and a strong desire to learn next to the faience craftsman Ahmed Rabat explaining how they were made. In sign language, she expressed her joy and happiness with the craft that intersects with Amjad Hourani expressed his desire to learn the craft of Arabic calligraphy more broadly and described it as a fun work that carries the touches of beauty and originality.
