(CNN) - The couple was frantic.

They rushed to a police station in Perth, Australia, around 11:30 p.m. on Christmas Eve, desperately asking for help at the reception.

His 8-month-old baby was drowning with food and not breathing.

The CCTV images show what happened next: Acting Sergeant Jason Lee finds them in the lobby and takes the baby from the man. Lee pats the baby on the back several times until he evicts the food. Then the baby returns.

Lee then shows the couple the right method to save children who are drowning. He shows them how to hold the baby with one hand, face down, and give him five strong pats on the back.

That is the same process recommended by the American Red Cross.

Then, the video shows the relieved couple leaving through the same door through which they entered. The whole scene lasts only two minutes.

The sergeant "used first aid to evict an article from the mouth / throat of the young child," the Western Australian Police Force reported in a post on its Facebook page.

"Our agents receive first aid training and, with several years of experience, their training went into action," interim inspector Shane Crook told Nine News, a CNN affiliate.

Lee was only following his training, but Crook said he inspired the team that worked at the Northbridge police station in the city of Perth on the west coast of Australia.

"It just raises the spirit of the place, a situation like that," said Crook. "It's positive, it's a good result, I think everyone was smiling ... police officers like good stories."
