The British Foreign Ministry issued a statement saying it was "deeply concerned" with the ruling that convicted the British young woman of fictitious rape against some young Israelis

The British government raised questions and criticized the judicial proceedings in the case of the young woman convicted of a false complaint of rape against a number of Israeli young people in Cyprus.

A British Foreign Ministry spokesman responded to the ruling, stating that the young woman voluntarily participated in a group sex, saying: "The United Kingdom is deeply concerned about the guarantees of fair trial in this difficult and troubling case and will raise the issue with the Cypriot authorities."

Judge Michalis Papasencio's ruling in the Parlamini court was strongly condemned by women's rights groups in both Cyprus and the United Kingdom. The accusation against the island authorities is that the ruling is an attempt to maintain good relations with Israel.

The young woman's conviction rests on a confession in which she draws her accusations against the Israeli young people, a confession signed after hours of cross-examination where the young woman's lawyers were not present. The British civilian even claimed during the trial that the police forced her to change her version and that she "feared for the animal".

"We believe there have been numerous violations of both the standard procedure and the defendant's rights to a fair trial," said the British young woman's attorney, Nicoletta Sarlambido, after the defendant and her mother appeared in court.
