Iran has been taunted in the United States - and now faces a threat it did not know Israel today

Tehran is capable of operating in Syria and Yemen, threatening Saudi Arabia and Israel - but now faces a different kind of rival • Interpretation of the Middle East

The Iranian response to Suleimani's assassination was, according to the Islamic Republic, aimed at smuggling the US presence out of the region.

  • Iranian missile attack on US bases in Iraq

After Quds Qassem Suleimani's commander's coffin arrived at the site of his burial in the Karman area, Iran realized its threats and attacked US bases in Iraq. Despite a source statement in the Revolutionary Guards claiming that the attack killed about 80 people, but it turned out that there were no casualties. Either way, the influx of reactions from the Revolutionary Guards and Foreign Minister Muhammad Jawad Zarif may be confusing.

Reminder: Iran's state television channel and Revolutionary Guards have declared revenge for the American assassination. Iran's top leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said: "Our military action is just one hit, and the key response will be for America to leave the region." In his speech this week, Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah also marked the same goal - the removal of American forces from the Middle East.

In contrast, Iranian Foreign Minister Zarif sounded "milder" by saying that his country was not interested in war. In his official Twitter account, Zarif wrote that his country had taken proportionate measures to protect itself. "We are not asking for escalation or war, but we will defend ourselves against any attack," he stressed.

Those who have followed Iran in recent years will not be surprised by the gap between the statements. While Foreign Minister Mohammed Zarif presented talks on nuclear agreements willing to diplomatically discuss controversies, while statements by the Revolutionary Guards became increasingly blatant. For example, the Guard Commander, General Hussein Salami, threatened Israel with news in the mornings. Khamenei did not sound like anyone who wanted a compromise either.

The good cop method and the bad cop

On the face of it, this seems to be the well-known method of "good cop" and "bad cop." While the Revolutionary Guards are threatening the West and Israel, the Foreign Minister is reaching out to negotiate, thanks to which the Islamic Republic will be able to achieve without the need for any kind of attack. The achievements will allow Iran to strengthen, and better prepare for the next time it decides to threaten. Following the threats, the road to renewed negotiations will pave the way for Iran to gain further achievements, and so on.

Remember, Iran's current grip on the Middle East comes in parallel and more so after the nuclear agreements. The large amount of money flowing to the Republic strengthened the shifts and pro-Iranian branches. The situation came as a result of Israel being forced to thwart a skeleton attack a few months ago, Saudi Arabia was under attack on its oil industry and a US contractor was killed in an attack against a joint base for US and Iraqi forces. This is actually the same gun Iran put on the table even before US President Donald Trump withdrew from the nuclear agreements. And this gun tonight, fired again.

In fact, these are different tactics designed to serve the same purpose: to "export the Islamic revolution" everywhere in the Middle East. The Shi'ite state, still operating from a perpetual sense of siege in the Sunni region that has crushed it for centuries, is sure that if it does not embark on the revolution - the threat will come home. In other words, if we do not take over the Middle East, the Middle East will dominate us.

Went too far

The Quds Force headed by Kassem Suleimani had confidence in this project. Through it, Iran trained, deployed and established Shiite forces such as Hezbollah in Lebanon, the Houthis in Yemen and the militia of suspected a-Sha'abi in Iraq in order to "employ" its enemies. As long as the conflict is taking place in Lebanon, Syria, Iraq and Yemen, it feels safe. However, this project went one step too far when it was directly provoked in the United States.

The United States is not Israel or Saudi Arabia. The White House is not a fragile Baghdad or Syria that has been torn apart. Kassem Suleimani's assassination was just an example of America's power.

Against this backdrop, the threats of the Revolutionary Guards and their affiliates to oust United States forces in the Middle East sound disconnected. Iran apparently trusts American separatism, and Donald Trump's desire to leave the Middle East and let the various forces continue the wars they have waged since the age of the era. But an attack on US Army targets will probably lead to the opposite result. During an irony, Iran's constant fear of a threat to the home - led it to trigger a threat they did not know.
