State Comptroller Mathew Engelman is expected to conduct a series of state-of-the-art reviews on climate change and weather damage this year.

From information released to Israel Today, the Comptroller announced to his office that he intends to promote an effective, comprehensive 360-degree review in the coming years that examines the State of Israel's preparedness for climate change and global warming and their impact on the public.
As part of the various audit tasks, the State Comptroller's Office will in the coming years examine the preparations of government ministries, local authorities, drainage authorities and various public bodies to protect themselves from extreme weather events. However, following the repeated flooding in the deadlines last winter and last year, the audit is expected to first examine public bodies' preparations for the issue of flooding and flooding.

"Unfortunately, the recent weather damage has ended in victims of the soul and much damage to residents, authorities and businesses," said Engelman during a lecture at the Jezreel Valley Academic College, which was held yesterday on the implementation of the "constructive audit reform". "These events have sharpened the need for a forward-looking systemic audit that will, in line with international audits, examine the public bodies' preparedness for climate change and weather hazards."

According to Engelman, "the audit will focus on future challenges and risks, and will take place on several levels and from different auditing angles. This comprehensive audit will enable you to obtain a complete and inclusive audit image and effectively target audit recommendations at the core of the action."

These audits are included in a series of reviews conducted in recent years, including the State Comptroller's Report on Local Authorities' Assessments for Local Fires and Excessive Weather Hazards (2015). The said report found significant deficiencies in the ongoing and systematic maintenance of water drainage systems in the examined authorities.
