That came as a surprise: shortly before the election, the municipal council in Bad Wiessee decided to build the new bathing park. The fact that the decision was made in a non-public meeting is now causing criticism.

Update from Sunday, February 2, 3:17 p.m .:

For all parties in Bad Wiessee, it seems indisputable that the bathing park needs a new future. But now the SPD mayor candidate, Robert Kühn, has also criticized the way in which the decision to build the new building came about.

"To make such a far-reaching and important decision for the citizens in a non-public meeting is evidence of a lack of understanding of democracy by the entire municipal council," explains Kühn in a statement, adding: Transparency and citizen information are foreign words for the mayor. The SPD candidate sees a clear violation of the municipal code, according to which meetings have to take place publicly with a few exceptions. "With me as mayor," Kühn assures, "there will be no such blatant violations of the municipal code."

Original article from February 1st:

Bad Wiessee - In a non-public meeting, the Wiesseer municipal council passed a fundamental decision on how to proceed with the dilapidated bathing park. Demolition and new construction of a 30 million euro bath is the route. “We are confident that we can do that financially now,” says Mayor Peter Höß (Wiesseer Block) about the new construction project. After years of deliberation - the renovation of the bathing park was already an issue in the municipal council in 2005 - the time had now come to get the project started.

Now that the financial basis is now available (Höß: "This is also thanks to my clever financial policy"), the mayor saw no reason to leave the fundamental decision about the future of the bathing park to the new municipal council. The body is constituted in May. "It will take years again until the new town council gets underway and knows its way around," says Höss. In view of the deficits caused by the bathing park, this is not justifiable.

In addition, there is the "really dramatic" condition of the bathing park, which anyway does not allow any other option than demolition. An engineering firm had examined the statics of the foundation of the bathing park and, due to a missing pile, had come to the conclusion that an economic renovation of the existing bath could definitely be ruled out, as stated in the decision extract.

Even if Bad Wiessee can manage the investment on its own, Höß wants to request financial support from neighboring communities. The mayor envisages a share in the operating costs for the future swimming pool.

Greens Mayor candidate irritated by decision of the municipal council

The candidate for mayor Johannes von Miller (Greens) was irritated by the municipal council's decision to use the water park. In a statement, he criticized the fact that "a project of this size" had been decided without the information of the citizens and also of the other councilors in the valley. "And I find it problematic to hand over a 30 million decision to the next new municipal council at the end of a term of office," says von Miller, who basically believes the decision to build a new building is correct.

The situation is viewed differently by his CSU competitor Florian Sareiter, who, as the incumbent municipal council, supported the unanimous decision. He also spoke up on Friday and said: "The new bathing park is far from dry." The decision now taken should only be understood as a signal in which direction it should go. The decision as to whether the new building will actually come will certainly only be made by the new municipal council, "when the final planning has been completed".
