The French authorities announced today that they have banned a demonstration that protesters of the "Yellow Jackets" movement will organize in the center of the French capital tomorrow, to condemn the policies of French President Emmanuel Macron and reject his project to amend the retirement systems.
The French police said in a statement that "the demonstration to be organized tomorrow, Saturday, could cause street turmoil at a time when protesters intend to participate in a demonstration near public institutions and tourist and shopping areas."
The French authorities have faced these protests since they began in November 2018, with excessive repression that resulted in many casualties and the arrest of thousands.
Despite this, protesters continued to gather on Saturday every week to protest against the government of President Emmanuel Macron, who say its policies favor the wealthy, and the momentum of the protests increased recently after opponents of the project to reform pension systems and the transport sector unions.
