A hardware store and garden center are said to be located in Peiting. In Peißenberg there are now fears that this will have a negative impact on local trade.
Peißenberg - It is a large-scale retail project to be built in Peiting on Zeißlerweg near the B 472. A DIY megastore with a garden center (“V-Markt”) is to be built on an area of just over 28,000 square meters, including an attached car wash and 240 ground-level parking spaces. The project is not without controversy.
In Peiting, a list of signatures for a citizens' petition against expulsion was initiated and member of the Landtag, Andreas Krahl (Alliance 90 / The Greens), has already issued a critical warning to the Bavarian government about the massive sealing of land.
In Peißenberg, too, the “Herimo GmbH & Co.KG / Georg Jos. Kaes GmbH “planned major project on resistance. The municipality was asked for an opinion before the necessary spatial planning procedure was initiated - and according to the preliminary consultations in the building committee, this will not be positive. The hardware store settlement in Peiting, the tenor of the most recent committee meeting, could "lead to a substantial loss" for the existing Peißenberg hardware store ("Hagebau") as well as the "Dehner" garden center and the nursery "Ferchl". In addition, there are fears that Peißenberg as a medium-sized center “will lose considerably its attractiveness as a shopping location”.
In the project description, it is forecast that the purchasing power commitment of the potential Peitinger hardware store in the direction of Peißenberg could be up to 20 percent. The committee did not propose a decision for the market council, but was unanimous on the matter: “A hardware store is opened in Peiting - and we close ours then. That makes no sense, ”stated Matthias Reichhart (citizens' association). Klaus Geldsetzer fell into the same horn. The hardware stores would ditch each other's customers: "This is a small war," the SPD councilor speculated.
Mayor Manuela Vanni (Peißenberger list) also argued against the major project in Peiting. It could not be that two municipalities are dueling each other with ever larger markets. Vanni reported on the committee about a telephone call with the owner of the Peißenberg hardware store, in which the owner expressed "considerable concerns" - "and I understand that," emphasized the town hall manager. The question is whether the Peißenberg hardware store would still pay off economically if it lost part of its catchment area. Vanni's conclusion: "You should defend yourself against the settlement in Peiting." Bernhard Schregle, head of the building authority, agreed - even if you do not know to what extent the economic concerns of a neighboring town are weighted within the framework of the spatial planning procedure.
