The Fiqh Scientific Council of the Ministry of Endowments and the Union of Levant Scholars issued a fatwa suspending the Friday prayers, sermons, and congregational prayers in Syrian mosques temporarily from Sunday, March 15 to Saturday, April 4, 2020. It will be sufficient to raise the call to prayer for the five daily prayers.
According to a statement, Sana received a copy of it. After the end of today's meeting in the ministry’s building, the fatwa was issued, which also includes the suspension of all religious lessons and group meetings in all mosques and wedding halls and condolences affiliated to it.
According to the statement, the fatwa comes after the World Health Organization announced that the Corona virus has become a global epidemic and in the interest of the safety of citizens and visitors to mosques, as gathering places and crowds increase the risk of infection and the spread of the virus.
