The case alleges that at about 3:30 p.m. that day, the LCSD staff saw from the CCTV that the national flag hung outside the General Assembly Hall was pulled down, and the defendant then pulled the flag away from the other two. The accused then burned them with muskets and tissues, and then trampled on the national flag before leaving.

About 40 people were on the sidelines and there were live broadcasts from the media. Two people who insulted the national flag were not sentenced

During the demonstrations last year, there were several incidents of burning or insulting the national flag. In addition to this case, at least two people had pleaded guilty, including one who committed the crime in Tuen Mun on September 21 last year The 13-year-old girl was sentenced to accept probation for one year after pleading guilty. In addition, air-conditioning technician Luo Mincong (22 years old) also violated the national flag at a parade in Sha Tin on September 22 last year. After pleading guilty, he was sentenced to a social service order of 200 hours.

The Department of Justice had earlier asked Luo that the sentence was too light, and asked the Appeals Tribunal to review the sentence. He hoped that Luo could be sentenced to prison. This review case has not yet been decided.
