(CNN Spanish) - United States President Donald Trump revealed new guidelines to reopen the country after weeks of unemployment on confinement orders to stop the spread of the coronavirus.

The plan called "Opening up America Again" has three steps to gradually reopen the economy, starting in areas least affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

"Now we are opening all at once, but with one careful step at a time," Trump said.

According to the document presented by Trump, the plan is based on updated information, mitigating the risk of a resurgence of infections and seeks to protect those most vulnerable to the spread of coronavirus.

Phase one

This phase applies to states and regions that meet the reopening criteria:

  • It is recommended to continue with the orders of confinement and social distancing
  • Teleworking will continue to be promoted, but some workers may gradually return to their offices
  • Maximize the social distance between people when they are in public places
  • Avoid meetings of more than 10 people if you cannot have social distancing measures
  • Minimize non-essential travel
  • Businesses like gyms, restaurants, theaters, sporting events, and churches can operate only if they adhere to strict social distancing protocols.

Phase three

"Normal" life returns as much as possible, but with limited restrictions

  • Vulnerable individuals may return to public interactions, but with social distancing
  • The population with low risk of contagion should minimize their exposure to crowded environments.
  • Workers will be able to return to workplaces
  • Visits to care centers for the elderly are resumed, maintaining high hygiene standards
  • Public places (like restaurants, cinemas, churches) can operate under physical distancing protocols
  • Bars and gyms can operate only if they adhere to strict hygiene and social distancing protocols.
