Early this morning (18th), the authorities continued construction and closed all traffic lanes in Mong Kok Road and Nathan Road. The 30-meter-high giant boom was used to lift the flyover assembly to connect the newly built bridge bar across Nathan Road. District councillors came to inspect the scene, and a large number of citizens also stopped to watch. Affected by road closures, vehicles must be diverted.
According to the Transport Department, in order to cope with the lifting of the footbridge, between 1 am and 5:30 am today, a section between Nathan Road between Bute Street and Argyle Street and a section between Bute Street and Kui Fu Street Portland Street, a section of Mong Kok Road between Shanghai Street and Nathan Road will be temporarily closed. 28 bus routes and 6 green minibus routes must be diverted.
In 1998, the government announced the "Mong Kok New Pedestrian Overpass System" plan. The flyover spanned Nathan Road to Lai Yee Street, and then along Lai Yee Street to connect Mong Kok Road to Bute Street. The first phase of the project was completed as early as 2002, that is, the current section from Mong Kok Road to Sai Yee Street, including the section between Mong Kok Station and Mong Kok East Station. However, Mong Kok Road spanned less than 100 meters of Nathan Road, and construction was not started until January 1, 2011. The completion date has been delayed, and the latest completion date will also be postponed to the first to second quarters of 2021.
