Dominican Republic begins reopening despite thousands of infections 2:53
(CNN Spanish) - The agglomeration of passengers inside the wagons was the protagonist in the videos that circulated on social networks this Wednesday, during the reactivation of the Santo Domingo subway, in the Dominican Republic.
The service has been closed since March 21 due to the coronavirus pandemic, which so far has left 13,657 infected and 448 dead, according to the most recent official report.

Regarding the images, the director of operations of the Office for the Reorganization of Transportation, Ariel Rodríguez, said in an appearance this Thursday that a technical delay of six minutes in one of the trains caused more passengers to accumulate in the following stations.
According to data from this transport office, around 51,000 passengers used the subway on Wednesday, just half of what was customary on a day with low circulation before the pandemic.
The country began this Wednesday with the first of four phases of a phased reopening of the economy, with hundreds of thousands of Dominicans from the public and private sectors returning to their jobs. As for state public transport, the cable car and buses were also reactivated, taking measures to prevent new infections.
